For a while now, the pitch for office AI has been simple: a smarter assistant that writes your emails, summarizes meetings, and maybe drafts a slide or two. But real work rarely ends with one generation. You gather sources, revise, hand off files, sync progress. The more complex the task, the more roles and handoffs are involved. WorkSwarm, from the openJiuwen community (backed by Huawei's 2012 Lab, Cloud, Devices, and Computing groups), pushes into this territory. It's a multi-agent collaboration system that brings the idea of a swarm to personal office work. Recently upgraded and launched on HarmonyOS PC app market, it also runs on Windows and Mac. The pitch: instead of one AI you chat with, you get a crew of specialized agents that can plan, execute, and hand off work to each other—and to you.
Seven Agents Walk into a Recording Studio
One demo starts with a simple request: a song about a coastal typhoon, with a cinematic, narrative feel. WorkSwarm quickly assembles a music team—a team lead, lyricist, composer, arranger, lead vocalist, accompanist, and interlude specialist. Seven roles, each with a clear job. The lyricist writes lyrics and vocal cues. The composer sets melody and structure. The arranger handles instrumentation. The lead vocalist focuses on diction, breath, and emotion. The interlude specialist checks transitions, and the accompanist adds harmonic and dynamic suggestions.
The team decides on a style—Epic Cinematic Dark Pop—and maps out sections: Intro, Verse, Chorus, Bridge. A first demo is generated quickly. But the interesting part comes after listening. The vocalist thinks some emotions could be pushed further. The interlude specialist reviews each transition. The accompanist gives a completion assessment. They discuss the Bridge, the Chorus build, the interlude length, the climax points—then feed those notes back into the creative loop. The version history shows music-2.0 through music-2.6, with records of what changed and why.
The final deliverable includes an MP3, lyrics, composition plan, arrangement summary, vocal instructions, accompaniment suggestions, interlude review, version log, delivery summary, and a style prompt—twelve files in total. If you want to tweak later or reuse the style for a new song, everything is there.
Humans and AI, Passing the Pen
The second demo is more like a quiet experiment. Three members: two AI writers and one human. Their task: take turns continuing the classic essay "Yueyang Tower," one sentence per turn, signing each line.
They share a single Word document on the desktop. When it's an AI's turn, it reads the existing content, finds where to continue, writes a sentence, and marks it "AI Poet 1" or "AI Poet 2." Then it saves, closes, and reopens Word—because that's how you hand off—and pings the next member in the group chat.
The human joins from a phone. When it's their turn, they receive the previous text and the assignment. They write something like "衔远山,吞长江" (embracing distant mountains, swallowing the Yangtze), sign it "Human Player," and pass the baton back. The desktop Word updates instantly, and the chat logs the full handoff.
Closing and reopening Word might seem trivial, but it's very close to how office work actually happens. The agents have to understand the writing brief, save files, switch contexts, and notify the next person. The human has an identity, tasks, and a voice in the conversation. They can correct the AI or take part directly. "Human on the Swarm" and "Human in the Swarm" become natural actions: check progress, grab a task, write, then call the next person.
Four Capabilities That Make It Work
Under the hood, WorkSwarm relies on what it calls Coordination Engineering. It's about organizing the handoffs. Someone plans, someone executes, someone reviews. Upstream outputs—documents, audio, logs—flow automatically to downstream members. You can sit in the "lead" seat or pick up a specific task yourself.

If you don't like the outline, you send it back. If you need technical details, you @-mention the expert agent for a consult. You can even add a "polisher" mid-task. You're no longer the courier of information; you're the decision-maker.
For batch production, the cluster mode is a game-changer. You input a topic, audience, and style, and the system assembles a team to research, structure, write, and integrate in parallel. What used to be a serial process becomes a parallel task chain. The demo shows a 200-page high-quality PPT delivered in 20 minutes.
Coding: From Idea to Installable App
The same team approach applies to development. Say you want to revisit a classic arcade game like Tank Wars that you can't find anywhere. In cluster mode, you get a dev team: front-end and back-end work on separate branches, merge to main, testers check, a lead oversees. Midway, you think of a new feature—just @-mention a member and add the requirement.
